I sat down at my usual spot in the coffee shop with my anti drugs in hand, a freshly made frappuccino and today's paper. I skimmed through articles of the newest happenings as I waited for her. Erin. We had dated for about three years. I ran into her at this very shop. She spilt her coffee all over my brand new shirt. She was so shocked and apologetic. She even offered to clean my shirt for me. I fell in love with her that day. It seemed so long ago now. I loved her to bits. She always knew exactly what to say to cheer you up when you were down. And her laugh--oh her laugh--it was true music.
    The little bell over the shop's door rang. I looked up from the paper. Kyle walked in through the door. He looked around the shop for a second and noticed me. Kyle grinned as he walked over to me.
"Hey little Mikey."
...Mikey...I always hated it when he called me that. It's Michael, and occasionally Mike, but never Mikey.
I smiled and shrugged it off like it was no big deal. I was used to my older brother calling me that. That's how he always referred to me.
"Good morning, Kyle."
I gave him a subtle head nod as I took a sip of my frappuccino. I thought about Erin a bit more. She never had liked frappuccinos, or cappuccinos for that matter. She even had her own name for them; crappuccinos. I chuckled at the thought. Kyle made his way to the front of the store and got a drink of his own. As he walked past me to sit in his own little corner of the shop he asked,
"You waiting for someone here?"
"Yep."
I took another sip. Kyle took a seat and just then his work cell rang. He answered it. I returned my attention to the newspaper. I flipped to the comics section. Erin and I would read these together when we were first dating. I remembered her laughter once more. She looked so cute when she laughed. The way she'd wrinkle up her nose and her eyes lit up you couldn't help but smile. Suddenly, the bell rang again. I looked up. There she was. Clad in a dark blue ruffly blouse and light skinny jeans. Complete with silver hooped earrings and subtle platinum heels. She looked around the shop. And then our eyes locked. I melted in her mocha brown eyes. She had always hated her eye colour. I adored it. Her eyes just reminded me that of a cheerful puppy's who was glad to see me after a long day at work. She smiled and waved at me.
  She walked in past me and I felt my heart beat a little faster. I loved her so much. She walked over to Kyle's table. Kyle was still speaking on the phone but managed a "Hey babe".
She smiled and bent over to give him a kiss. My heart ached and I looked away. I kept wishing I'd wake up from that awful nightmare. I didn't though. I had to face the truth. In the end, Erin loved Kyle. Not me. I picked up my drink once more and made a silent toast. A toast to bad relationships and sucky family. I downed the rest of my frap and left that shop and all the memories of Erin in it.
Just a short story. Popped up in my head at 2 am on July 14th. I jotted it down in my memos on my phone. It's not written very well, I apologize for this. ^^;
