I wander through the halls. 'This school is so big...or is that just the students?' I chuckle to myself and turn into my next classroom on my schedule. It was fourth hour. I had met the teacher before. Many times before. She had gone to my church many years before. Her and her family. A friend of my sister was once smitten with their son.

I walk in farther, clutching my binders and textbooks with all my might, shaking from being so nervous, and perhaps from missing out on breakfast that morning... I pick a random spot and sit down, waiting for the teacher's instructions.I notice the upperclassmen. So tall. So social. >

The bell rings and the teacher walks in incredibly cheerful. My tension eases up a bit and I relax. She explains that normally we put our books on the computer counter to the side of the room or on an empty table. I glance over to look at all the computers. I instantly cheer up more. Technology. I know how to work a computer better than I know how to walk. I hope and pray that we use them often this year.

After about twenty minutes, the teacher dismisses us to second lunch. I don't quite understand what to do yet, so I just follow the older students around. ^-^; During lunch I contemplate all that I know about that class so far. It seems so simple. Not that hard. I get my lunch from the a la cart line and look for a spot to sit. I look all over the cafeteria and can't find my friends. I sigh and walk over to a familiar upperclassman who was seated with a few various others, including that curly blonde boy. She was just in the other classroom with me.

"D-Dani, r-right?" I manage to stutter out.

She nods.

"I'm Kelsey. Care if I sit here?" I ask awkwardly.

"Oh sure, go on ahead." She smiles so warmly.

I smile back and take a seat near her.

"Thanks."

I eat quickly. I tend to do that when I'm under pressure. I move faster.

Pretty soon second lunch is dismissed and I'm back in that classroom.

The teacher continues on with rules and inside jokes with the older students from previous years. She hands us a syllabus and tells us what we should bring to class each day. Before I know it, the bell rings and I go through my other classes quickly and my first day ends.
This is a memory from my first day of seventh grade. I just wanted to see if I could write about my experiences. It's written in first-person present tense, which I normally hate doing, but I really wanted the practice.
